Through years of conversations with collectors, creatives, and art lovers, I’ve seen a consistent need for personalised, broad, and independent art advice. Many new (and even experienced) collectors hesitate because they feel unsure, overwhelmed, or afraid of making the wrong choice. This is where thoughtful guidance makes a real difference.
As one part of Art Matters’ ongoing ‘art evangelism’, I offer a private advisory service designed for collectors who want to build confidence and clarity in their choices, in a way that is both enjoyable and enriching. My role is to guide you through the process of discovering art, helping you see more clearly, feel more deeply, and choose with confidence.
My background as a designer and strategist has shaped how I work: translating complexity into clarity, listening, recognising patterns, understanding your brief, and helping you make intentional decisions. It also means knowing when to challenge your assumptions and introduce you to alternatives that may expand your vision. My knowledge of contemporary art practice, galleries, emerging artists, and the broader historical context of Australian art continues to expand and deepen, providing you with access to a diverse and exciting array of art.
Over many years, I’ve been sought out for advice, helping art-curious people who value experienced, thoughtful and supportive guidance to establish or evolve their collections. Through considered introductions and recommendations, I bring new art to new eyes.
My role isn’t to tell clients what they should buy, or to chase names or trends. It’s to help develop confidence in looking, bringing rigour and transparency to the process, while also respecting intuition and lived expertise.
I offer private advisory sessions to a limited number of collectors each year. I established Art Matters to help you bring art and artists into your world in a way that feels both enjoyable and engaging. This service is designed to build your confidence, clarity, and joy in your collection, and train your eye and heart to recognise what truly matters.

Who created Art Matters?
Art Matters was founded in 2025 by Australian designer, artist and brand strategist Anna Gowers. It is a project devoted to artists, art lovers, and the creative life. Anna’s career spans graphic design, brand consulting, teaching, and studio leadership. After completing a Bachelor of Design (Graphic Design) at Swinburne, Anna began her career in the design industry, later establishing her own practice while raising her family. She went on to teach at the National School of Design (Swinburne), managing the Honours studio, where she helped students bring real-world design projects to life. In the years since, she’s continued her design practice, including developing her own stationery range and exploring other creative projects. She has worked as an account and strategy director in leading Melbourne design studios for the past 15 years, collaborating with organisations across sectors — from large corporates to not-for-profits and cultural clients. Along the way, she’s remained a mentor and advocate for emerging designers and artists. Anna’s path has been shaped by her lifelong curiosity, sense of service, and belief in the arts as a means of growth and transformation. Today, through Art Matters, Anna brings together her love of art, storytelling, and community. She continues her own art practice alongside this work, finding inspiration in the coastlines of Point Lonsdale and the cultural life of Melbourne and other great art cities of the world.
